Fundamental Psychoanalytic Perspectives

Fundamental Psychoanalytic Perspectives

If you are interested in psychoanalysis and want to learn more, whether or not you are a psychotherapist, then this comprehensive introductory program has been designed for you. This unique program has been offered since 2004 by the Toronto Psychoanalytic Society in response to the growing interest in understanding complex issues within ourselves, our patients, and in contemporary society. We have found that understanding psychoanalytic concepts can often be applied to professional and personal situations as well.

Each weekly seminar is usually led by a psychoanalyst who will explore a variety of basic psychoanalytic concepts through readings, explanatory clinical examples and guided discussions. This thirty-six-week course is offered Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 pm between September and June.

The upcoming 2024/2025 FPP class will be offered using a hybrid model: in person and via Zoom.

Although this is not a training program, it does provide an excellent introduction to the core psychoanalytic concepts for people who may be interested in further training.
