This special in-person only workshop takes place over the course of one day and explores clinical material relating to work with couples. Kaleigh Trace (MSc, RP) a Couples Therapist, and Lindsay Barton (RP, FIPA) a Psychoanalyst who works with couples, will spend the day exploring case work and the material derived from clinical encounters with couples.
The morning session will present two dyads, explore themes of transference, countertransference, the notion of the third, and the experience of working in a long-term format with dyads.
In the afternoon, participants will discuss their own work with couples, presenting vignettes to discuss with the workshop leaders and the group.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the course, participants will be able:
- To understand the unique situation of the couple in the clinic, addressing themes of transference and countertransference in this arena.
- To refine skills and discuss therapeutic interventions specific to dyadic work, a specificity often gone unaddressed in traditional clinical training.
- To provide a case consultation space for clinicians who have questions about their own work with couples.
