Finding therapy can be challenging and sometimes confusing. There are many different types of therapy and a variety of different practitioners available.
The Toronto Psychoanalytic Society & Institute (TPS&I) offer a Referral Service to help you decide whether Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy or Psychoanalysis may suit you. Psychoanalysis is an intensive, long-term therapy that usually occurs three or more times per week, while Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy typically occurs one to two times per week. Psychoanalytic therapy generally seeks to investigate the interaction between unconscious and conscious factors involved in shaping personality, symptom formation, and relationship dynamics. These issues are explored through the close working relationship between therapist/analyst and patient.

- Training Analysts: Members and graduates of a psychoanalytic training program that qualifies graduates for membership in both the Canadian Psychoanalytic Society (CPS) and the International Psychoanalytic Association (IPA) and who teach and supervise Toronto Institute of Psychoanalysis (TIP) candidates. Training analysts can provide psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
- Psychoanalysts: Members and graduates of a psychoanalytic training program that qualifies graduates for membership in both the Canadian Psychoanalytic Society (CPS) and the International Psychoanalytic Association (IPA). Psychoanalysts can provide psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
- Affiliates: Affiliates have graduated from the Toronto Psychoanalytic Society’s two-year Advanced Training Program in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (ATPPP) and can provide psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
All providers listed are licensed to practice Psychotherapy by their respective colleges i.e., College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO), College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO), Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO).
