Deadline for registration is September 21, 2024.
Preregistration is required.
** DISTANCE PARTICIPATION ONLY – This course will be conducted online.

In this series of six meetings, participants will meet on zoom to discuss various Netflix series, The Criterion Channel or Kanopy films from a psychoanalytic perspective. This will be an opportunity to think as a group about these productions, thus enriching our appreciation of their historical and current cultural manifestations. Kanopy is a free app offering digital movies available through most public libraries. The Criterion Channel is by paid subscription.

For September we will watch the Netflix Series “Wrong Side of the Tracks”.

The coordinator, in consultation with the participants, will select future choices. Please feel free to send your suggestions to barbarajburrows@gmail.com.

There is no charge and no obligation to attend all the meetings, but each person must register to get the zoom link. Everyone will be informed what the title of the next series will be ahead of time.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Have a psychoanalytic appreciation of the themes and dynamics of a number of culturally important series on Netflix or on films from Kanopy.
  2. Develop their skills in thinking and speaking psychoanalytically.
  3. Have the satisfaction of having discussed aspects of contemporary culture from a psychoanalytic point of view.
