This course will present information on, psychoanalytic conceptions and examples of the very contemporary topic of addictions. Both behavioural and substance addictions will be addressed (i.e., gambling, shopping, drugs, and alcohol). These will be considered from several psychoanalytic points of view including but not limited to Classical, Ego Psychology, Bion and Lacan. Implications and suggestions for treatments of patients with these conditions will be presented. Reading suggestions will be sent out before each seminar. Discussion will be welcome.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- A general understanding of some of the major addictions in contemporary society.
- An understanding of the psychoanalytic dynamics and structures associated with addictive behaviour.
- An understanding of the implications for the psychodynamic treatment of patients with these conditions.

Psychoanalyst. She teaches in the Extension Program of the TPS. She is a co-Founder of Lacan Toronto. Member TPS&I.

Refunds must be requested in writing two weeks prior to the beginning of a course. A handling fee of $30 will be retained. After these two weeks, fees cannot be returned.
